Calderwood Expands With Two New Independent Directors

Calderwood, a leading Cayman Islands boutique fund governance firm, has expanded its senior team with two key appointments, with Jason Perras and Rena Strecker joining as independent directors.

Jason Perras joins Calderwood with significant experience in the investment fund space. He has spent over 22 years working in financial services, with particular expertise in hedge funds and private equity. Previously, Mr. Perras was Head of Client Operations and Executive Director at MUFG Alternative Fund Services (Cayman).

Jason spent over 15 years with MUFG, including his time with UBS Fund Services (Cayman), prior to the MUFG acquisition.  Before that, he worked with Deloitte & Touche in the Cayman Islands and with PwC in Canada. With Calderwood, Jason will accept appointments on the boards of investment funds and other related structures, advising on issues regarding corporate governance and regulatory compliance.

Rena Strecker is highly experienced in the insurance and reinsurance industry. As an independent director with Calderwood, she accepts appointments on the boards of captive, insurance and reinsurance companies, advising on financial, operational and corporate governance matters.

With over 20 years’ experience in the sector, Ms. Strecker has held a number of senior positions within property & casualty insurance/reinsurance, life & pension and captive insurance. Prior to joining Calderwood, Rena worked for Greenlight Re in the Cayman Islands as the Team Head for middle office operations. Previously, she consulted for AIG in London and New York, served as a Vice President with Goldman Sachs in London and worked with Global Captive Management in the Cayman Islands.

“We are delighted to welcome Jason and Rena to the Calderwood team, both of whom are very highly regarded in their respective fields” said Calderwood co-founder Ronan Guilfoyle.  “We continue to increase our senior director capacity and provide new services to our clients. As we move into our eighth year, we look forward to announcing further strategic appointments in 2024.”

These appointments bring yet another year of strong growth for Calderwood to a close. Since launching in 2016, the firm’s senior director count now stands at 11. Earlier this year, UK barrister Clare Price joined the team in London, which extended the firm’s global network across three continents.

Calderwood was also recently named ‘Best Offshore Governance Firm’ at the HFM US Services Awards 2023 for the second year in succession. The HFM awards recognise excellence among US hedge fund service providers and are judged by a panel of leading fund industry executives.

Calderwood’s fundamental approach to fund governance is to provide highly experienced independent directors, with a limit on the number of each director’s relationships, to ensure every fund client receives the utmost attention.
