We were delighted to welcome Todd Hazlewood to the Calderwood team at the start of this year as an Independent Director. Todd is a veteran of the Cayman Islands’ fund services industry and has over 25 years of professional experience.
Todd has a real taste for adventure. As well as traveling to places like Morocco, Cambodia and Belize, he has also done the Running of the Bulls twice at the San Fermin festival in Pamplona, Spain. He has also been skydiving and jumped off the world’s second largest bridge in South Africa.
With his adrenaline chasing days now firmly behind him, Todd’s next trips will be hiking the ruins of Machu Picchu and golfing in Jamaica. To relax these days, he enjoys a nice sauna and cold plunge session and cooking with a great bottle of red wine. Welcome Todd!

Deadline Nears for SIBA Registered Persons Prudential Survey
CIMA’s Prudential Information Survey, which is mandatory to complete for all entities registered as Registered Persons under the Securities Investment Business Act (SIBA), must be submitted to the Authority by 31 March 2026.
The survey features around 40 questions and the responses will help CIMA assess risks specific to SIB Registered Persons, enhancing its insight into activity in the sector and its risk areas and potential exposures. PPoC Submission Deadline Extended
Under Cayman’s CRS Amendment, the deadline for Financial Institutions (FI) to appoint a Principal Point of Contact (PPoC) in the Cayman Islands and notify the DITC has been extended to 31 January 2027. Existing Cayman FIs – including investment funds - must now ensure their PPoC is locally resident and notify the DITC by that date. Any Cayman entities that became an FI in 2025 must complete CRS registration and register on the DITC Portal by 30 April 2026. The PPoC must be a natural or legal person with a physical address in the Cayman Islands, that is authorised to act as the primary contact for CRS compliance. Administrative penalties of up to US$12,000 may be applied for failure to comply. If you require Calderwood's services in this regard please get in touch.
Cayman Government Delivers Clarity on Tokenised Funds
The Cayman Islands government has provided welcome clarity on the regulatory framework for tokenised funds. The Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP) Amendment Bill 2026 has clarified that tokenised mutual funds and private funds already registered with CIMA are not required to register separately as a VASP, provided they do not engage in any other activity requiring registration or licensing under the VASP Act.
Tokenised funds will also not be subject to a separate audit requirement and are not required to appoint a custodian to hold the equity interest. These amendments have been welcomed by the financial services community in the Cayman Islands which has seen a number of funds adopt this structure. With uncertainty now removed, activity is expected to increase in this area and further guidance will be issued to service providers in due course.
Cayman Fund Vehicles Reach Record Levels
Record levels of corporate activity in the Cayman Islands is being driven by sustained demand for investment fund structures. Data from the Cayman Islands General Registry showed both active partnerships and companies rose to record highs last year. The number of companies on the register rose by 1.7% in 2025 and new company registrations of 13,306 was the highest annual figure since 2021. Partnership growth was even more striking. Total active partnerships, including exempted limited partnerships – rose by 5.6% in 2025, mirroring global private market activity.
